Butterfly hair clips now available!

Just about managed to get these photographed and listed in my Etsy store in time for Christmas.

These pretty butterflies were some from a batch I made for a recent local craft stall I was selling at. My hair clips were very, very popular and I've now sold out of some of my favourite colourways. I'll be making some more soon, but until then I've update my Etsy store with the colours I currently have.

So if you too want to buy a pair in time for putting in a Christmas stocking then head over to the shop and get ordering!

Restocking hairclips

After discovering how popular my crochet hair clips were at last month's toddler group sale I've been busy busy making even more.

Some of these pretties use the new yarn I was showing off in an earlier post and they all have the yummy hand dyed buttons from paper-and-string.

Next job is to get them all photographed properly for adding to my Etsy store - keep your fingers crossed that the sun comes out some time soon so I can take some better photos.

Butterfly brooches

At last I have some butterfly brooches to show you all - these are very similar butterflies to the ones I make for my butterfly garlands, they are slightly larger though and have little crochet antenna.

These two little butterflies will be fluttering off to new homes for Christmas but I'm hoping to make up a few more for my shop soon.

New yarns to play with

The sale at my local toddler group went so well that I've had to buy in some more yarn to work with!

I'm really glad that I made so many hair clips last week as they sold brilliantly... I think a few of them will definitely be ending up being put into Christmas stockings next month :-)

I will be selling crochet bits at a couple more charity events soon so I've got lots to do with making some more stock - and once I have a few more crochet bits made I'll add some extra items to the shop for any online buyers who want to stock up for Christmas...

Hair clip mania

This Friday I'll be doing another sale at my local toddler group so I've been working hard making some extra stock.

Because I love the new butterfly hair clips I made recently I thought I would work up some more in different colours and I adore how they have turned out!

I've now got a lovely box full of pretty butterfly & flower hair clips and I'm sure they'll sell well as I can see them being perfect stocking fillers :-)

Butterfly hair clips

Just finished working up a couple of pairs of butterfly hair clips.

First off we have a lovely lilac & heather colour combination - they slightly vintage and old fashioned.

I've adjust the pattern that I used for my butterfly garland to make a smaller size and added on antenna. Due to the sturdiness of the yarn these butterflies hold their shape really well so shouldn't curl up while being worn.

Next up I've done the butterflies in purple and hot pink. These are much brighter and would really suit some pretty denim dungarees I think :-)

Which colours would you choose?

Now I'm off to make a few more pairs - then after taking a few more photos I can list these in the shop.

Photographing garlands...

I'm having some problems with taking a decent photo of my newest addition to my shop... just what is the best way to convey how pretty such a long item is?

I've tried hanging this garland up in my garden and taking odd angled shots in an attempt to get the whole garland into a photo but no success with that. I'm tempted to try putting a few tacks in our hallway to give a nice blank background to a photo of it hanging up - but I'm pretty sure my husband won't like the idea!

I love this garland and really want to do it justice - so if you have any ideas or suggestions for how to set up a photo of it then do let me know!

Still working...

Hello everyone!

Very sorry for the complete lack of posting, I'm still here just extra busy.

My shop has been a little neglected recently so I need to work on getting my new items photographed and listed up - I can't wait to show off my butterfly garlands to you all.

Please be patent with me - I'll get back into the blogging grove soon I promise!

My first craft stall

After an evening working out just how to fit everything I needed for a stall into the bottom of my daughter's buggy I was finally ready for my first ever craft event.

I'd spent the previous two weeks crazy busy trying to make up more stock, cut more pillow boxes and business cards as well as finish up my new butterfly bunting. Due to space constraints I didn't get to show off my stock as well as I had wanted but apart from that it went really well.

Lots of people came to admire what I had made and ask about it (they all got given business cards and perhaps I'll hear back from some of them) as well quite a few buying my crochet hair clips. One customer did go away with two matching pairs of baby booties for her soon to be twin grandsons - I hope they like them :-)

Blog mention - SIBOL

One of my favourite blogs to visit is SIBOL (Sunshine International Blankets Of Love) which is a wonderful place filled with hundreds of beautiful granny squares which get made up into lap blankets and taken round to care homes for the elderly.

Unfortunately I don't get around to making many as many squares for SIBOL as I would like but after seeing Mrs Twins request for crochet butterflies I couldn't resist making up a couple along with a little stash of butterflies.

Mrs Twins has just received my little package of crochet and has written a new blog post about it which you can find here. Thanks for posting about me Sue & thanks so much for all the wonderful work you and SIBOL do.

New hair clips

Coming up with colour combinations for hair clips is fast becoming one of my favourite 'jobs' so far...

Any yarn that I have left over from making booties is getting finished up doing these pretty hair clips so nothing gets wasted here at Pretty Crochet Things.

I'm hoping to try selling these at a local toddler group this week so wish me luck with that! Any stock I have left over will be added to my Etsy store so don't worry, everyone can get a chance to buy some of these new hair clips.

Going local

A selection of my booties are going to be visiting a local summer fair this Saturday along with a few flower hair clips too.

The last few days I've been busy getting them all ready and packed up and as this is the first time that I've seen them all together at once I thought I would snap a quick photo for you all...

Can any of you spot the latest colour combination in there?

Beautiful butterflies

I've been having the best time crocheting up this butterfly 'rabble'*

For these butterflies I've used 8 colours from the Debbie Bliss DK cotton yarn range and had great fun coming up with the different combinations for each butterfly.

The Debbie Bliss cotton yarn has a lovely soft feel to it while having good stitch definition and creating motifs that hold their shape really well.

Hopefully I'll have some complete butterfly garlands to share with you all very soon :-)

* - according to wikianswers a rabble is the most common way of describing a group of butterflies.

Moody blue

After the success of my first Etsy sale I've since had a request about whether I make flower brooches... So for the last few days I've been having a go at designing my own pattern for one and this is what I've come up with.

This is a three layer crochet flower brooch (with another of my favourite hand dyed buttons on - in a larger size than those I use on the hair clips) all crocheted together in one piece with a brooch fastening sewn on the the back. It measures 3" across and would look great as an accessory on a hat/bag/coat.

I really love the blues that I've used here - so I'm tempted to make another for myself. I'm also hoping to try a couple more brooch designs but that will probably take me another month to get around to (I'm still in the middle of a butterfly craze)... so keep an eye out here for some new designs soon.

Seeing as my hair clips seem to be quite popular at the moment I've also made up a couple of pairs of flower clips using the same violet yarn that I used in the centre flower on my brooch. These little pretties are very soft and slightly fuzzy - no idea what the yarn is though as I bought it from a mystery selection of yarn last year.

I hope I haven't left any of you feeling 'blue'!

Now back to butterflies - I can't wait to show you all what I've come up with :-)

My first ever sale!

I'm so very excited that I had to post about this right away - I've just made my first sale on my Etsy store!

My new crochet flower hair slides seem to be popular already with these two pairs ready to go in the post this morning to my first customer. I've also got another customer who wants the same hair slides & possibly a custom crochet flower brooch as well.

Right - I've got to go and crochet up some more stock for my shop, thanks for stopping by :-)

Pretty flower hair clips

These little cuties have just this minute been added into my Etsy store. They are made up using some of the same yarns that I use for my booties as well as the same hand dyed buttons from paper-and-string that I love so much.

I'm really glad that I decided to use contrasting button colours for the flower centres as they really make these hair clips stand out.

What do you think - worth paying £3.50 for a pair?

Now back to making butterflies - hopefully I'll have some to show you here soon.

Just shared this post on the wonderful Faith Hope and Charity Shopping blog by Lakota - why not pop over and see what everyone else has been up to?

Design ideas

Now I've got my range of booties made up and in my shop I'm keen to get started on a few more different items. My long term plan is to stock a range of crochet items for babies & children so as well as my booties I'm hoping to sell some pretty crochet garlands and a range of crochet accessories like hairslides & brooches.

This rainbow butterfly garland is a quick prototype (made using the free butterfly pattern by Lilyheart designs) that I made up for my recent Butterfly Tea Party (you can read about the party on my other craft blog Jess gets crafty). This one is pretty long (roughly 4m) - I'm hoping to do shorter garlands to decorate children's rooms.

As I'm in a butterfly haze at the moment I also want to design some pretty butterfly hairslides. I've made up a few in crochet thread using the lovely pattern by Chrissy (available as a free Ravelry download here) as gifts already.

So now I'm off to have a go at designing my own crochet butterfly pattern and hopefully I'll have some more butterflies to show you all soon.

Blog mention

Due to hosting my recent giveaway I wasn't able to post about the mention Sarah from the wonderful paper-and-string blog did about my new Etsy shop...

Sarah's lovely shop paper-and-string is the supplier of the pretty hand dyed buttons that feature on my new line of crochet booties. The buttons are beautiful - such pretty colours, but she also sells a number of other lovely craft supplies including some delicious felt rainbows, some brilliant felt kits and a large number of her own hand crafted felt creations.

The blog mention can be found here

Giveaway winner!

Good morning all!

It's another beautiful morning here and so a great time to be spreading a little sunshine to one of the entries to my little Sew Mama Sew giveaway.

Drum roll please...

The winner is number 38!

That would be thehappycrochetchic who wrote: "I love the blue fair isle effect booties they are soo perfect for boys!". So this pair of booties will be making their way over to the United States soon, I hope you like them Julia!

Thank you all so much for taking part - it's been lovely reading all your comments and really great to have an idea of which colours you like the best.

The top rated booties from your comments is the 'Hot pink bootie' made with Cashmerino yarn - this is a wonderfully soft little baby bootie and so bright it always makes me smile. Coming in a very close second are the 'White booties' which are a great neutral pair and would work brilliantly for a christening or new baby gift.

I've been having a good look through some of the other lovely baby items to be found on Etsy and thought I would have a go at making my first 'Treasury' collection. An Etsy Treasury is a chance to showcase some of the other great crafty talent to be found on Etsy and I decided to theme mine on pretty baby things for girls that weren't pink.

There was so much to choose from and now I have a hankering for some of these beautiful goodies...

Finally open for business!

It has been almost a year since I decided to try and sell a few of my crochet items and today I've finally managed to do it.

My little Etsy shop is stocked up with a range of my booties in different yarns and colours - 12 different bootie types in all. Some of these have flower embellishments, and a few of those embellishments are optional for no added cost.

These first 12 booties are hopefully the first of many - I'll see how these sell and depending on what feedback I receive I'll tailor my range to suit my customers.

I'm really pleased with the small stock I have added to my store today - they are all made with love and care and I'm proud of each and every bootie :-)

Business cards

Coming up with a simple little flower & button logo has been one of the hardest parts of starting this little business... I've had a clear idea of what I want it to look like in my head, but when it comes to drawing it out it all goes horribly wrong.

After many hours trying to hand draw/fight GIMP2/play with calligraphy pens I've finally ended up with the little flower you see on my lovely new business cards. I'm really happy with how simple it is but still want to tweak it a little, whether I ever get the time to is another matter!

Making boxes

I've been busy cutting and folding up these little pillow boxes. I just love the beautiful patterns on these and think that they make lovely gift boxes.

These pillow boxes are the perfect size for one pair of booties wrapped in tissue paper - once I get my Etsy shop up and running I'll be offering a free gift wrapping service using these lovelies :-)

Etsy shop progress

With a lot of help from my husband (armed with an SLR camera) there is now a lovely new banner image adorning the top of my Etsy shop.

Still got to photograph all the various booties I have made up and get them listed, but hopefully once that's done I'll be able to announce the opening of my shop!

Colour changing booties

I adore this yarn.

Sirdar Snuggly Crofter - baby fair isle effect

I've choosen to make up these booties in three of the colours from this range 'boonie' (pink), keltie (lilac) and scottie (blue).

The yarn is beautifully soft and is a nylon/acrylic mix - so great for any babies allergic to wool and animal fibres.

Stocking up

Plenty of booties being made up here at the moment - these little lovelies are mostly made up with Sirdar Calico (60% cotton 40% acrylic - machine washable at 40 degrees) and have a lovely soft feel to them. Each matched up with a co-ordinating hand dyed button (again from paperandstring)

So many pretty colours of yarn and so little time!

Blue booties

Just finished up the little blue pair of booties and thought I would share a photo of them.

Made using Sirdar snuggly crofter yarn - so lovely and soft. Finished with hand dyed buttons from paper and string
